CHOCOBOS WON'T LEAVE ME ALONE!
What's wrong with these things? Geez!

They know all the heinous crimes you commit and decide enough is enough! It's probably a sign.

[Pause. Materia is getting her feet stepped on by very large, affectionate birds and she is in NO MOOD.]
You are SUCH A MORON.
no subject
BUT, as a show of good faith, I'll come by and show you how to properly take care of a chocobo!
no subject
right okay HURRY
Quicklog
Now, where would she be where she has to deal with a lot of chocobos-- oh yeah!
[The stables, of course! It was there that he rode. Once there, he took a look around for her... or listen for excited chocobo warks. Their typical calls were very easy to pick out among many other types of mounts left here.]
Quicklog
Four chocobos have crowded up against the outside of the wall, and most of the herd inside the paddock is milling around the inside, hedging her in. When she spots Night, she fumbles her boomerang, nearly dropping it, then starts waving it over her head.]
He-ey! Over here!
Quicklog
They're staring at you hard enough to burn holes! Did you give 'em treats or do you have something in your pockets?
[He waved a hand before a birdy pair of eyes, who continued focused on Materia. With a happy chirrup and a sparkling, fascinated stare, Feathers puffed up his plumage and took tall strides toward the paddock wall...]
What the-- damn it, Feathers, I just fed you!
Quicklog
I don't have any food on me, I swear! I--hey, quit that!
[Feathers had reached her and was curiously grooming her hair with his beak. This was, at least, a lot better than having her feet stepped on or being pecked, but it also tickled. Materia smothered a giggle, trying to push the big bird's head away.]
I said, stop it! That tickles...mmf! Ahaha...!
Quicklog
I thought I got you out of the flirty stage, you turkey. Bad! Stop it!
[Oh, and the black bird didn't like being called a turkey. That and a combination of the materia's effects had the bird turn on Night and start pecking him into oblivion, the demon taking to running for dear life, trying to scramble up the paddock wall to safety as a beak jabbed at any part of him he could reach.]
I didn't mean it I DIDN'T MEAN IT--
Quicklog
It hit her after a moment that maybe getting pecked to death by a chocobo wasn't the best way to go, though. Also, now that Night was out of the way, the other birds were starting to wander over again. Pulling herself together somewhat, she waved her arms at Feathers in an inexpert shooing motion.]
H-hey! Leave him alone!
[Nobody was more surprised than Materia when the bird meekly trotted away from the wall and went right back to solicitously checking her hair for bugs and tangles. The rest of the chocobos were following suit, which was still better than foot stomping but left Materia trapped in a thicket of curious, friendly chocobo beaks.]
Whoa! Um! Little help here, Ni-aahhahaha, ouch! Cut that out!
Quicklog
Shinies.]
I think I have an idea. Chocobos like really shiny things, I know Feathers collects knick-knacks! Can I borrow the boomerang?
[And so he strode up, using his hands to push away curious, fluffy bird heads to give Materia some breathing room. He bit his lip ... she ... her hair, they'd styled it just a little. Nice cow-lick.]
J-just for a second.. *Snrrrrk*
Quicklog
Materia made a face and fumbled at her side for her weapon, reluctantly handing it over.]
Do not lose that. Or scratch it. Or...
Quicklog
Feathers was the first to stop preening and cant his head at Night quizzically. Then, that same dreamful look on his birdy face, he happily strode right over for an affectionate nuzzle. One by one, the chocobos relented of their preenfest...]
Maybe they like how shiny it is! Did they follow you before?
[And just like that, he wound back and gave the boomerang a heave. It spun and got some air, circling its way around as the birds watched in fascination.]
...I think you discovered the power to control chocobos or something! Wanna work at the ranch, Materia? It's super fun!
Quicklog
Nah, this is the first time.
[Had she ever brought her boomerang onto Melee before? She wrinkled her nose, thinking - she'd had it with her when she came to fight Night and things got crazy, but she'd run right across the island on her way there...and on the way back...um. She'd been in a hurry, then, too... Materia's fingers strayed absently to her jacket, remembering the scrubbing it had needed to get the blood out.
Any maudlin feelings of misplaced friendship she might have been harboring, though, went -poof- when Night winged her boomerang practically off the island without her permission.]
Dammit, Night...!
[Materia let out a shriek in dismay - it took training to do that! he was gonna lose her weapon! - and was on the verge of grabbing him by the scarf to see what color silver-blooded weirdos turned without oxygen when it...actually turned in the air and circled back. Shocked, she reached up and caught it, then gave him a funny look.]
Where'd you learn to do that?
Quicklog
His hand went to the back of his head, rubbing a sore spot from Feathers' beak.]
...I don't remember.
[He frowned at admitting that, a fang biting at his lower lip. Maybe that guy he hated had something to do with it. He didn't know for sure.]
But... it's the boomerang that's got the chocobo's attention. They want nothing to do with us for the time being save for Feathers. Hi, buddy!
[He smiled when the black bird came over, and he scratched behind the steed's head, who in turn warked its content... until it looked back at Materia. Feathers stepped to her side and nuzzled.]
I'm going to put the others back in their stables if I can!
[But before he could skip off to do so while the chocobos were a little distracted.]
...And thanks! You know, for getting my name right!
[And off he goes to put the enamored featherblobs away, clicking his tongue to get their attention before nabbing the reins of each.]
Quicklog
[Materia's exclamation trailed off, mouth open in irritated surprise, as Night swanned away to take care of the other chocobos. What had she been calling him lately? She hadn't been...thinking about it much.]
Buttlaser.
[She mumbled it under her breath, just for the principle of the thing - it wasn't like she was trying to call him by his name or anything - and let it go for now, looking curiously at her boomerang. She knew what the green materia did. Something about it felt electric, but she'd never figured out the other one. It just felt...fluffy, somehow. Feathery? Did Night have a point?
She thought about popping it out of its slot and slipping it into her pocket, just in case...but then Feathers began gently nuzzling her, and Materia's resolve vanished. With a roll of her eyes, she scratched around the big bird's beak.]
You're all right, fluffball.
[Maybe she'd have to try the riding thing again sometime...]

Stupid chocobos took my journal. Got it back. I'm up on the paddock wall now.

Will Night-san be getting there swiftly?

He's here!

Good luck, Materia-san!
